The Afermath of #Haiyan ASEAN Secretary-General's Visit to the Philippines
JAKARTA, 25 November 2013 - After visiting typhoon-affected communities in the Philippines last week, ASEAN Secretary-General H.E. Le Luong Minh said there is progress in relief distribution as well as in managing assistance from local and international communities. However, he emphasised that due to the massive scale of the calamity brought upon the country by typhoon Haiyan, the Philippines needs continuous support to restore normality and even bring progress in disaster-stricken communities.
TACLOBAN, 22 November – Today, the ASEAN Secretary-General arrived in Tacloban City where he personally conveyed the Association’s full solidarity with the Filipino people and to see how ASEAN can better support the Government and the people of the Philippines in its relief and long-term recovery efforts. “The devastation is massive but we know that the resilience of the people in this country is even greater. ASEAN will stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the Philippines in restoring hope and progress in these communities,” Minh said on his arrival in this typhoon-ravaged city.
MANILA, 20 November 2013 – In his capacity as ASEAN Humanitarian Assistance Coordinator, Secretary-General Le Luong Minh will visit the Philippines today to personally convey ASEAN’s solidarity with the Filipino people and show the Association’s support to typhoon-ravaged communities.
