Senior ASEAN Official speaks at the region’s Supreme Auditors Meeting
BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, 6 November 2013 – The Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for Community and Corporate Affairs Dr. AKP Mochtan spoke to the region’s supreme auditors at their General Assembly Meeting being held from 6-7 November in the Bruneian capital. In his remarks before the assembly of the ASEAN Supreme Audit Institutions (ASEANSAI), Mochtan said that the meeting “reflects the continuing commitment and sound progress in promoting good governance within the ASEAN region.”
According to Mochtan, the ASEAN Secretariat itself had been a direct beneficiary of the expertise and experience of the ASEANSAI which has provided inputs to continuously improve the efficiency of ASEAN Secretariat’s operations and internal control mechanism.
At the meeting, Dr. Mochtan commended ASEANSAI “for leading the way in ensuring excellent stewardship of our people’s resources.”
ASEANSAI is an organization composed of ten Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) of the Member States of ASEAN. It was established in November 2011 to encourage and promote good governance within the ASEAN region and became an accredited entity associated with ASEAN in February 2013. Indonesia’s Chair of the Audit Board, H.E. Hadi Purnomo, is the current Chair of ASEANSAI. The Auditor General of Brunei Darussalam, H.E. Pengiran Haji Abdul Rahman bin Pengiran Haji Mat Saleh, is the incoming Chairman for 2013-2015.
