ASEAN and Kazakhstan to Promote Bilateral and Regional Cooperation

JAKARTA, 24 January 2014 - “Kazakhstan expresses its keen interest in cooperation with ASEAN in the potential areas comfortable to both ASEAN and Kazakhstan”, said H.E. Askhat T. Orazabay, Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to ASEAN during the presentation of his Letter of Credence to H.E. Le Luong Minh, Secretary-General of ASEAN, today at the ASEAN Secretariat. He also informed SG Minh that Kazakhstan, one of the biggest country in Asia in term of territory, economy and per capita income; member of both Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), and Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO), wishes to nurture close cooperation in many areas with ASEAN through bilateral as well as region organisation to organisation. He also stressed that, being the former Secretary-General of ECO himself, he personally wishes to promote closer cooperation between ASEAN and SCO in the areas of security cooperation and between ASEAN and ECO in the economic areas.

SG Minh welcomed Ambassador Orazbay as the new Ambassador of Kazakhstan to ASEAN as well as his initiative to further promote bilateral and regional cooperation between Kazakhstan and ASEAN; and between ASEAN and SCO and ECO. He encouraged Ambassador Orazbay to work closer with the ASEAN Secretariat and the CPR to forge the said cooperation for fruitful and mutual interests.

Apart from ASEAN, Kazakhstan has also established its Missions in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Viet Nam.
