ASEAN Secretariat Welcomes Governors and Mayors from ASEAN Capitals
Governors and Mayors from ASEAN Capitals visited ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta today as part of their ongoing meetings to discuss how local officials can play a role in promoting ASEAN Community 2015. As the region approaches the launch of a common market in 2015 which would mean free flow of goods, services, investments and skilled labor across the 10 Member States, the heads of ASEAN capitals are exploring how they can address the challenges of integration which would affect the daily lives of their citizens. This is the first time that the heads of ASEAN capitals are meeting on this subject.
H.E. A.K.P. Mochtan, Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for Community and Corporate Affairs welcomed the delegations and took them on a quick tour to ASEAN Gallery, ASEAN Hall, and ASEAN Resource Center.
Talking of the 2015 regional integration, Vice Governor of Phnom Penh Mr. Trac Thai Sieng said “we are at the dawn of a new era in cooperation where citizens of ten countries can reach out to all.” He was happy about the historic meeting of local officials because now “local communities have a regional platform for discussion,” he added.
