The ASEAN Secretariat Plays Host to the ASEAN Women’s Circle’s Charity Bazaar

Visitors to the ASEAN Secretariat today and tomorrow, 4-5 April 2008, would be treated to a food fair and bazaar organised by the ASEAN Women’s Circle. Called the ASEAN Women’s Circle Charity Bazaar, the event was opened by Mrs. Herawatie Wirajuda, wife of Indonesian Foreign Minister, H.E. Hassan Wirajuda, this morning, 4 April 2008. She said ASEAN, as a family of nations, has common socio-political values and principles, and has constantly strengthened its solidarity and harmony. In this regard, each ASEAN country, including the women, should be able to work together hand-in-hand to strengthen ASEAN in every sector.

It was a colourful opening ceremony, with cultural performances by Thailand, Malaysia and Lao PDR. A high school student demonstrated her vocal skills, performing the song “The Greatest Love of All” to applause. The bazaar is in aid of three charities for disabled children in Jakarta. The bazaar is opened to the public from 9.3o AM to 4.30 PM.

The ASEAN Women’s Circle of Jakarta is a non-profit organisation consisting of members, including wives of ASEAN Ambassadors, from the ten ASEAN Member States. The Chief Patron is Mrs. Herawatie Wirajuda while the Advisor is the wife of the ASEAN Secretary-General.
