Dr. Surin Pitsuwan, the Secretary-General of ASEAN, and Mr. Ban Ki-moon, the Secretary-General of UN officially launched the ASEAN partnership with the United Nations as part of the ASEAN Coalition of Mercy on 24 May 2008 at the Don Mueang Airport, Bangkok

ASEAN Secretariat - Nippon Foundation Cooperation
Mr. Shuichi Ono, Executive Director of the Nippon Foundation of Japan visited the ASEAN Secretariat on 7 May 2008 to discuss a memorandum of agreement with Secretary-General of ASEAN Dr. Surin Pitsuwan on improving the quality of life for the peoples of ASEAN. This will cover areas such as traditional medicine and alternative medicine, support for the disabled, leprosy and human dignity, and human resource development. Mr. Ono is here as a representative of Mr. Yohei Sasakawa, Chariman of the Nippon Foundation.
