The Economic Research Institute of ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) Governing Board will be convening its inaugural meeting at the ASEAN Secretariat on 3 June 2008. The members of the Board comprise eminent personalities, from the 16 countries which participate in the East Asia Summit (EAS), and the Secretary-General of ASEAN.
ERIA will focus on policy-oriented research of strategic interest to ASEAN and the EAS countries which would assist policymakers in the region, especially in light of recent economic developments which include the acceleration of the realisation of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) to 2015, and the growing momentum of cooperation under the EAS.
This meeting takes place pursuant to the decision of the Leaders at their Third East Asia Summit last November in Singapore to establish ERIA.
